“The lack of equity and access to education are hampering learning opportunities, especially for girls”

“The United Nations views education in the context of lifelong learning opportunities. The principles of inclusion and equality that underpin our work apply to our vision of quality education for all. It is the overarching focus of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and fundamental to the achievement of all 17 Goals. But the lack of equity and access to education are hampering learning opportunities, especially for girls. This is evident in the ongoing gender imbalance that persists in the uptake of science, technology, engineering, andٳ𳾲پ(STEM) subjects by girls and in the field of science, technology and innovation (STI) for women.

“Alongside the challenges around equity, the drastic changes in technology, including AI has created a crisis of relevance calling into question the ability of current education curricula to respond to contemporary learning needs. The necessary environment must be created to empower societies, and individuals particularly our young people to transform education systems. Investing more equitably and more efficiently in education will provide youth with the relevant skills to maximise today’s opportunities and prepare for the jobs of the future.”
