Typical problems students face in secondary schools

Ìý

As we know, students nowadays face many problems both in school and out of school, although the focus here is on the ones in school.Ìý

There are many problems such as:

oÌýÌýÌý The school itself is not well maintained for e.g. many desks and chairs are old or defective and on the verge of breaking. Most of the time the blame students are blamed when they do break even though it was not intentional.

oÌýÌýÌý Another problem is the toilets, which many students avoid using, as they are Ìýdirty and reeks, The toilet barriers are low and have many gaps and holes meaning that there is no privacy and most of the time the locks on the doors are broken.ÌýSanitary items such as soaps are also unavailable.Ìý

oÌýÌýÌý The snacks and drinks sold at most schools could be considered unhealthy, with snacks that are deep fried. Students feel there are not enough healthy food items to choose from leaving them with limited options.Ìý

oÌýÌýÌý Another problem students face is from the teachers themselves, many teachers use vulgar languages or speaks in a negative tone towards students which puts a lot of pressure on students especially when they are in class and want to ask a question or misunderstood something. This causes students not to ask questions or clear their uncertainties as they fear they may receive a negative response and be made a laughing stock amongst other students.

oÌýÌýÌý There are also cases were students are treated based on preferability or gender, which should not be the case, as students should be treated equally.

oÌýÌýÌý Certain teachers during school period leaves the schools premises to smoke and are sometimes seen by students which is not only a bad influence but when they return they smell of cigarette which should not be the smell that should be coming off a teacher when they are within class or the school premise and it may bother students with certain health problems.Ìý

oÌýÌýÌý There is also a lack of sitting spaces for students to sit during breaks meaning that most of the students have to sit outside under the hot sun or stand and lean against the wall in the lobby of their block while they eat or wait for their next period. This is quite frustrating especially when the lobby is full with other students and it is really hot. It also becomes a bigger problem when it rainsÌýas it becomes a cramped and stuffy areaÌýas the only covered areas are the blocks consisting of the classrooms which are sometimes closed during breaks leaving only the lobby available.
