Teachersā Week 2019 wraps up with gala |07 October 2019
More than 100 teachers gathered at the Savoy Resort & Spa on Saturday evening to enjoy a gala dinner to officially bring the 29th Teachersā Week celebrations to a close.
This yearās Teachersā Week was observed under the same theme as 2018, āEducation: A Shared Responsibilityā.
Present were Designated Minister Macsuzy Mondon, Minister for Education and Human Resource Development Jeanne Simeon, Minister for Employment, Immigration and Civil Status Myriam ThƩlemaque and other senior officials in the education department.
The principal secretary for early childhood, primary and secondary education Odile De Commarmond said that the majority of the activities for the Teachersā Week went really well, even though they had hosted more activities than last year.
āWhat was different about this year was that we organised a lot of activities to lead up to Teachersā Week such as the multi-cultural evening which encouraged the participation of expatriate teachers,ā PS De Commarmond noted.
She revealed that the multi-cultural evening would become a recurring event organised for Teachersā Week as from next year.
Next year will mark 30 years since the education department has been observing Teachersā Week and PS De Commarmond promised that there will be various new initiatives to mark the occasion.
āWe want to hold it on a larger scale than this yearās,ā she expressed.
On her part, Minister Simeon asked all the teachers to have fun and enjoy themselves during the gala, which they certainly did.
The gala included a red carpet entrance, buffet, live entertainment and dancing until early in the morning.
