Boxing - Local pugilists gear up for IOIG |04 April 2019
As part of their preparations for the 10th Indian Ocean Island Games set for Mauritius in July, local boxers are in full gear as they get ready, starting with an international competition at continental level.
Six boxers – Andrick Allisop (64kg), Shain Boniface (69kg), Edrian Volcère (75kg), Jovet Jean (81kg) and Keddy Agnes (+91kg) – will soon leave the country to take part in the 2019 African Zone 4 boxing championship which will take place in Botswana from April 22-28.
Upon their return, the boxers will begin an intensive training camp prior to taking part in another international tournament, precisely in Europe.
The five-day training camp will take place locally, precisely at the National Sports Council (NSC) Gym at Roche Caïman, while the Stad Linite dormitories will accommodate them.
The team will then leave the country again to take part in the 50th International Tournament ‘GRAND PRIX’ in Usti nad Labem, Prague, in the Czech Republic.
Organised by the Czech Boxing Association, the competition is open for elite boxers and will be carried out according to the Aiba rules, where all boxers must have red and blue competition vests and head guards.
The local organising committee also keeps the right to modify the weight categories.
At both tournaments, the boxers will be accompanied by head coach Rival Payet and his assistant Roland Raforme, while Jacques Bonne will be the team manager.
