How do we live in peaceful co-existence?

If we trace the history of the human race and ponder over current conflicts around the globe, we find that quite a bit of violence has been done and is being done in the name of religion. Some people condemn a particular religion or faith because of the violence done in its name; others question their faith because of that.
I have heard some people say that religion itself is the enemy and that peaceful co-existence is not possible between the three Abrahamic religions – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. I would tend to disagree.
