International Women’s Day

‘Let us accelerate actions to improve health and well-being of women’ – Minister Zialor

“On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the theme for 2025 #AccelerateAction calls for a renewed sense of urgency in addressing the persistent challenges that hinder gender equality worldwide. It is also a call to move beyond dialogue and actively implement solutions that drive real change, particularly in areas of welfare, well-being, and health.

“In 91㽶Ƶ, health is a national priority hence the theme fits well with our national agenda, hence the adoption of the theme for women’s day this year which is ‘Accelerate Action for Women’s Health, Welfare, and Well-being’. According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, in 91㽶Ƶ, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) remain the main threat to health of women in our country. There are also specific biological conditions that women have to go through such as menopause that also need to be addressed.

“Given the influence of Seychellois women in the family, in communities, and in our society, if we do not address the concerns of women’s health, then we shall see continuous increase in health care costs which of course will not be sustainable. This is not restrictive to only physical health welfare and well-being but also mental, emotional and spiritual welfare. This challenge however, offers us an opportunity to start a health revolution in our country, thus I urge all women in 91㽶Ƶ to press pause, and reflect on your health. This is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. If you are taking good care of your health, congratulations keep doing it but, if you are not, then it is time to press the start button now.

“We live in a time in the world whereby information is abundant and technology is accessible, so let us use the knowledge and technology available as catalysts that will significantly improve our welfare and well-being. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family, through the Family department, will initiate different comprehensive programmes and projects that will enhance the promotion of health and well-being in our families and the society, starting with that of women specifically. We are inviting all stakeholders and partners to join these initiatives to maximise the impacts and together let us accelerate actions to improve health and well-being of women, hence our nation and in the process help save lives.

“On this special day on behalf of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family, I would like to wish all women in 91㽶Ƶ a very Happy International Women’s Day!”

Marie-Celine Zialor

Minister for Youth, Sports & Family
