SITE and UniSey sign MoU to establish cooperation

Mrs Lespoir and Ms Perreau signing the MoU

The 91㽶Ƶ Institute of Teacher Education (SITE) and the University of 91㽶Ƶ (UniSey) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will facilitate exchanges of expertise and resources between them.

The MoU was signed by the vice-chancellor of UniSey, Joëlle Perreau, and the acting director of SITE, Mavis Lespoir, in a short ceremony held at SITE’s auditorium, Mont Fleuri yesterday afternoon.

Present were the Minister for Education, Dr Justin Valentin; the chairperson of SITE’s governing board, Margarette Moumou; ministry officials; dean of the faculties of UniSey; staff of UniSey; and staff and learners at SITE.

In her opening remarks, Mrs Lespoir said the aim of the collaboration was to create an environment where students not only gain knowledge but also thrive in a supportive and innovative educational ecosystem.

She added that it will also include collaboration on research projects that make tangible impact on teaching practices, ensuring that educators are equipped with the latest insights and methodologies.

“As we embark on this journey of collaboration, one of our shared objectives is to harness the power of research to guide policy-making within the Ministry of Education. By bringing together the academic prowess of UniSey and the practical insights from SITE, our research endeavours will be focused on addressing the real challenges faced by educators and students in 91㽶Ƶ,” Mrs Lespoir said.

She added that the findings from the collaborative research will serve as a compass, guiding the formulation of education policies that are not only rooted in academic rigour but also in the day-to-day realties of our educational system.

She noted they aspire to create policies that are responsive and inclusive and are capable of fostering a learning environment that empowers every student.

For her part, Vice-Chancellor Perreau said the signing of the MoU was a proud moment given it has been a long time since such a collaboration was initiated, representing the growth in the educational system.

“Teacher training is really at the core of the education development. We have talked about research, which is very important and we are both involved in education research, and together we can help the policy decisions at the Ministry of Education and the whole of 91㽶Ƶ,” Vice-Chancellor Perreau said.

Vice-Chancellor Perreau thanked all those involved in the realisation of the MoU. She noted it signifies the involvement of everybody in making sure the quality of education through teaching, learning and research, was at the highest standard for the benefit of the nation.
