Message by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism on the occasion of World Tourism Day 2023

Minister Radegonde

‘Sustainable development, a principle deeply cherished and exemplified by 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’

“As we mark the occasion of the 2023 annual Tourism Festival and World Tourism Day, we pause to contemplate the state of our tourism industry. This year's theme by the UNWTO ‘Tourism and Green Investments’, spotlights investments in people, our planet, and the prosperity of this industry. It underscores the vital concept of sustainable development, a principle deeply cherished and exemplified by 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, a pioneer in our region.

“91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ stands as an outstanding example of how a destination can prioritise sustainability without compromising the provision of a unique and luxurious tourism experience. It showcases the harmonious coexistence of tourists with the environment and local communities.

“We reflect upon an industry where economic growth aligns with social well-being and environmental conservation. It fills us with pride to witness the significant strides taken by our fellow Seychellois, our tourism industry partners, the government, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Together, they are transforming this destination into a sustainable haven, blending its natural splendor with responsible tourism practices.

“While we acknowledge the evolution and boundless potential of our tourism sector, we are also acutely aware of its fragility. We contemplate our aspirations for the coming decades and ponder the legacy we intend to leave for our country.

“As we explore avenues to enhance and sustain our tourism enterprise, let us always keep in mind the interconnection between the three crucial factors guiding our investment decisions: the well-being of our people, the preservation of our environment, and the prosperity of our industry.

“We are not just any corner of the world; we are the 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Islands, truly Another World!

“Wishing you all a joyful World Tourism Day!â€
