The Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Jean-François Ferrari, is presently in Muscat, Oman, at the invitation of his Omani counterpart, Dr Saoud Ahmed Al Habsi, to discuss opportunities of cooperation between the two countries in the areas of fisheries and the Blue Economy.
Minister Ferrari is accompanied by his principal secretary, Roy Clarisse.
According to Mr Ferrari, the two days of exchanges have so far been very productive.“Oman is a coastal state bordering the north of the Indian Ocean and also an influential member of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission. As such, it is important that our country develops good and friendly regional cooperation in order to advance positions which are common to both states. And so far, 91㽶Ƶ and Oman have been on the same wavelength on many issues, most importantly in tuna management,”Minister Ferrari said.
Oman has much experience in aquaculture and this is also an area of the fishing industry that has been the subject of exchanges. 91㽶Ƶ is hoping to tap into this expertise and eventually encourage joint ventures between the two countries.
The subject of training opportunities for specialists in fisheries was also discussed.
The visit of the Seychellois minister was organised by the consul general of 91㽶Ƶ in Oman, Said Al-Khusaibi.
This included a meeting with the Minister for Economy during which he was informed of the various opportunities of investment in 91㽶Ƶ.
The chairman of Salam Air, the second air transport company in Oman, paid a courtesy call on Minister Ferrari to discuss and explore the possibility of establishing direct air connection between Victoria and Muscat.
