HCA gets donations of vaccine equipment |02 March 2023
The Health Care Agency (HCA) has received donations of vaccine equipment from the World Health Organisation (WHO) regional office and the Red Cross Society of 91㽶Ƶ (RCSS).
The handover of the donation took place at the Ministry of Health’s Red Roof building yesterday afternoon.
The WHO donated two vaccine refrigerators which will be used for the storage of vaccines, while the RCSS donated three portable ultra cold freezers.
The donations aim to support the Ministry of Health in strengthening its national health system and ensure it continues to provide essential health services.
WHO representative, Dr Rex Mpazanje who officially handed over the two refrigerators to chief executive of the HCA, Dr Danny Louange, said that the donation is to support the country in its efforts to bring Covid-19 under control through vaccination, and to strengthen cold chain capacity.
Project manager of RCSS, Barbara Carolus-Andre, said the organisation is pleased to be able to assist with cold chain equipment which will assist in the maintenance and transportation of vaccines at the required temperature.
The RCSS and HCA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2022 to collaborate on a project aimed at supporting the management of Covid-19.
Additionally, there was also the handing over of a copy of a small survey carried out by RCSS on the perception of Covid-19 vaccination.
“This provides an insight of what vaccinated and non-vaccinated people are thinking of Covid-19 vaccines, and I thank all Red Cross volunteers who assisted in carrying out the survey,” Mrs Carolus-Andre said.
Dr Louange thanked the WHO and RCSS for their generous and much needed donation as well as for their continuous support for 91㽶Ƶ.
“We are so grateful that we have very loyal partners, the WHO, the Red Cross and the partners sponsoring WHO to assists us in the delivery of vaccination to realise our immunisation project,” he said.
One of the refrigerators will be going to the Anse Royale health facility while the other will be going to Praslin. The three portable freezers will be used to transport vaccines to Praslin, La Digue and to community health facilities on Mahé.
The cold chain management system and vaccine logistics management are essential towards guaranteeing vaccine quality, and are the backbone of immunisation programmes.
