Art: Meet Alyssa, a fine artist depicting the colours and magic of 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ |05 January 2022
Today we learn about the art pieces created by Alyssa Adams and the inspirations behind her watercolour paintings – from her deep love for nature, the colours and magic of 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, to her family of artists.
91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ NATION: Tell us a bit about yourself and your background in art.
Alyssa Adams: I was born in the 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ. I went to the International School on Mahé then I went to boarding school in the United Kingdom when I was 11 years old. I came back every possible holiday, even some half terms.
I did my foundation course at Kingston University south of London, and then my degree in fine arts and design at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London.
91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ NATION: You mentioned that it was a family member who inspired you to become an artist. Can you share more about this?
Alyssa Adams: My biggest inspiration in becoming a serious artist in 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ is my amazing father Michael Adams. He was the first artist in 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and has inspired so many. I had the best teacher and mentor that anyone could ever hope for!
My brother, Tristan Adams, is making beautiful paintings mainly of the sea and the views, as he spent many years surfing and now he loves to paint the sea from land! So we have a family of artists which is very unusual and wonderful, and we are all located at my parents’ gallery.

91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ NATION: Talk to us about your artwork. What techniques and mediums do you use, and what inspires you as an artist?
Alyssa Adams: The process of painting is simple – continue until it is really finished! I do not plan or sketch anything beforehand, but work straight from nature and find a composition that nature has provided. I just start with the paint brush which is full of colour and have faith in its journey.
Painting requires a quiet environment and time. Life demands so much time! It becomes challenging to create time to paint. When it is possible, it is magical!
I have such joy and a great feeling of inner peace when I’m painting. It is a wonderful escape from the real world and I enjoy the relationship that colours have with each other; it can be very exciting!
I mainly work with watercolour paints on watercolour paper. It is a very therapeutic job and I really love being lost in colour and painting 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ.
91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ is my biggest inspiration for what to paint. There is so much to focus on and the challenge I accept, to make my observations into an art form.
Ultimately, painting shows my love and respect for nature. Most details people overlook. In the detail mother earth provides, there is so much magic everywhere. We just have to capture and nurture it.
