“Informative, fun and definitely worth it” were the words used by Audrey Lepair, a participant of a four-day training session organised by the department of tourism in association with the 91㽶Ƶ Hospitality and Tourism Association (SHTA).

The training took place at the Vijay International School on Praslin from Tuesday July 30 to Friday August 2, 2019 and was attended by 16 participants who presently own or manage tourism accommodation businesses or are currently in the process of constructing their tourism establishments.

A few participants also joined to refresh their knowledge and skills.

Apart from the usual modules such as basic bookkeeping, basic marketing and reservation techniques, adding the Creole touch to food and drinks, customer care and etiquette, managing guests’ expectations and intercultural awareness, this session also introduced two new topics, namely fundamentals and science of clean and the science of laundry which did not feature in previous trainings.

Speaking at the certificate presentation ceremony, Anne Lafortune, principal secretary for tourism, congratulated all the participants and thanked them for their enthusiasm shown throughout the sessions.

She encouraged all of the participants to use the knowledge and skills gathered during the four days to promote good service delivery within the tourism industry of 91㽶Ƶ.

Sybille Cardon, the chairperson of SHTA, also extended her congratulations to the participants and encouraged them to spread the word about their experience and the benefits of the training to encourage the participation of other small tourism establishment owners.

So far two training sessions for small tourism establishment owners and managers have been held on Praslin and three on Mahé.

Another training session on La Digue will be organised soon.
